As a non-profit organization, Mayor's Time relies on its volunteers to accomplish our objectives.
We are determined to positively impact the health and safety of metropolitan Detroit youth through the expansion of after-school programs. But, it is going to take people like you to make our vision a reality!

Volunteer Policy

  • We do not accept walk-in volunteers, all volunteers must apply in advance for any volunteer opportunity.
  • Volunteers are required to sign the Volunteer Sign In sheet for any volunteer duty on the day of the event.
  • Mayor’s Time reserves the right to perform criminal background checks on all volunteers

Current Opportunities

Light Office Assistance: We are looking for volunteers to assist with light office work including filing, faxing, copying, placing phone calls, and answering phones. If you are interested, please email us at: info@mayorstime.com

Seventy Annual After-School Fair: We are looking for volunteers to assist in the following areas. All interested candidates please contact Jannice King at (313) 965-4130 or via email at janking@mayorstime.com.

Opportunity Date: TBD

Opportunity Time: *9 am – 2:00 pm
*Some tasks require volunteers to arrive earlier.

Opportunity Length: One day

Attire: Comfortable casual clothing and shoes – appropriate for wear around young children.

Required Skils:

  • Enjoy interacting and comfortable meeting other people
  • Personable, outgoing
  • Reliable, responsible, mature
  • Able to work independently
  • Physically fit – ability to stand for long periods and/or lift 25 lbs
  • Safety conscious
Opportunity Responsibilities:
Information Booth Host Provide information to the general public, including performance times, restroom locations, directions, questions, information, etc…
Booth Host/Mayor's Time Individuals are needed to help staff the booth and to organize and distribute information.
Line Control Primary responsibility is to monitor the food lines and ensures the attendees have meal tickets. Volunteer should be committed to customer service, teamwork and respect for the rights of others. Provide outstanding customer service to all participants, staff and volunteers at the MTASF and work to maintain an environment that is safe, comfortable and secure.
Floater This is for the truly adventurous. We place you where we need the most help. You will be assigned to fill empty volunteer slots due to "no shows", breaks and lunch periods. This person should be committed to customer service, teamwork and respect for the rights of others. May also be asked to run errands or make deliveries limited to within the Fair facility.
Play Area Provide a supportive, safe environment for children in the play area. Facilitate activities including arts and crafts, playing games, encouraging children’s participation and assisting children on and off of inflatables.
Operations/Logistics Job tasks could range from running supplies to stage or tables to operating a golf cart . Must be able to walk from one end of the site to the other and be able to lift 25 lbs. Experience with golf cart driving and hand tool use a plus.
Setup/Breakdown Crew Volunteers are needed to ensure each table is numbered, pamphlets, flyers, surveys, etc., are setup at each booth and to remove materials left in the booths after the Fair. Volunteers will also set up and/or take down site signs, tent signs, and banners.
Volunteer Registration Check-in volunteers
Parent Surveys Experience is not necessary, but must have the ability to perform physical activity (i.e., walking and standing for long periods), communicate, and interface with the public. Enjoy lots of public contact. You will pass out surveys, answer questions, and collect surveys at a specific site. Some surveyors will interview attendees.
