Our research shows that the potential return
on public investment in youth in the city of
Detroit is significant. For every $1.00 invested
in after-school and public education, society
gains $12.19.
It is this promise – the promise that
our youth can make a strong contribution to society
if we invest in them now – that was the
driving force behind setting a goal of 50% participation
level in after-school programs in Detroit. Since
1999, participation has risen from about 20 %
to 45%.
