| The following information describes
the program and the process for gaining access
to the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP).
The CACFP provides eligible after-school
program providers with a way to get free meals
and snacks for their after-school programs or
partial reimbursement for meals they prepare.
This program is federally-funded through the
United States Department of Agriculture and administered
statewide by the Michigan Department of Education.
Mayor's Time has initiated a partnership with
the Department of Health and Wellness Promotions
(DHWP) under the leadership of Dr. Phyllis Meadows
to recruit more after-school providers to participate
in the program. The involvement of DHWP, as the
sponsoring agency, reduces the paper work and
requirements for individual providers.
It is
our goal this year to serve 2,000 meals a day.
The money you will save can go to provide additional
programming and more children and youth will
receive a nutritional meal after school that
meets the United States Department of Agriculture
guidelines.
In order to
participate in the Child and Adult Care Food
Program, After-School providers must
have a day care license or verification that
licensing is not required by Act 116 of 1973
as amended. You may access the entire Act 116 at:
http://michigan.gov/dhs/0,1607,7-124-5455_27716_27718---,00.html.
Step 1:
If you feel your after-school program meets the exclusions as identified in
Act 116, please complete the review application and forward it along with
all of your supporting
documentation to:
Mayor’s Time, Inc
Attn: Jannice King
333 West Fort Street, Suite 1230
Detroit, Michigan 48226

Step 2: Mayor’s Time will review your packet
and make sure it is complete. You will be notified
of any information that is missing. Mayor’s
Time will not determine if you meet the criteria
for programs not requiring licensure. We will
only make sure your packet is complete.
Step 3: Mayor’s Time will forward complete
packets to the Office of Children and Adult Licensing,
Department of Human Services.
Step 4: The Office of Children and Adult Licensing,
Department of Human Services will review the
information that you have provided and they will
decide if you meet the criteria for a program
not requiring licensure as indicated in Act 116
and will forward a letter to your attention,
with a cc to Mayor’s Time.
Step 5: Once we have received a notification
that licensing is not required for your after
school program from Licensing we will notify
The Department of Health and Wellness Promotion
to set up your participation in the Child and
Adult Care Food Program.
