The
Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) -
The CACFP provides eligible after-school program
providers with a way to get free meals and
snacks for their after-school programs or partial
reimbursement for meals they prepare. This
program is federally-funded through the United
States Department of Agriculture and administered
statewide by the Michigan Department of Education.
The
Promising Practices in Afterschool (or "PPAS")
System (http://www.afterschool.org) is
an effort to find and share things that are
working
in
afterschool
programs. The PPAS website is for after-school
program directors who want to improve the quality
of their programs.

Arts & Scraps
(http://ARTSandSCRAPS.org) is
a non-profit organization that recycles
industrial scraps
into low cost
learning and creative material. You can
visit their location to stuff a bag with
materials
and get free program planning and purchase
complete kits for 25 with instructions.
They will also
visit your site for staff or youth workshops,
bringing the ScrapMobile, a 26’ bus.
The
TAP Program
(http://www.ysrc.org/tap.php) was developed
to direct intensive capacity building and resources
to organizations in targeted areas of the city.
The National Collaboration
for Youth has recently released
a series of afterschool toolkits, titled, "Partnerships
for After-School Success " toolkits.
The toolkits provide research supporting
the need for school-CBO partnerships; successful
strategies for creating and sustaining partnerships;
and checklists and tools. Though the information
is similiar in both packets; one is specifically
written for community-based organizations
and the other is for local education agencies
and state education agencies. The toolkits,
which range from 1 to 3 pages, are web-based

Mr.
Rudy EDUtainer™ (www.mrrudy.com) Mr.
Rudy is a motivational speaker who uses multi-sensory

The Youth Development Institute is
a for-youth by-youth organization. Students are
introduced to the principles of drug abuse, peer
pressure, teen stress, etc. As well as learn

Wise
Steward Ministries (wisestewardadmin@netscape.net) is
a community based non-profit organization that
provides financial literacy to youth and adults
in Southeastern Michigan. Their mission is
to provide a sound basis for financial literacy
for our youth.
Off
The Streets (OTS) (celia680vp@ameritech.net) is
a community-based organization serving “families
in crisis and youth at-risk.” The target
population for the Prevention Series sessions
are youth who have been chosen by a School
Counselor or youth in general between the ages
of 10-17 years old. OTS Community Education & Prevention
Specialist will meet with youth in groups during
appointed times to facilitate discussions and
actives, which encourage skill building in
the areas of Conflict Resolution or Violence
Prevention.
One-Stop
Career Service Center (kcooley_careerworks@hotmail.com) provides
regularly-scheduled, free workshops on topics
such as job interviewing skills, resume writing,
and dressing for success are designed to help
you put your best foot forward. You can also
take advantage of Career Resource Labs, where
computer-aided career exploration assessments
and other information will help you with your
career and education decisions.
