Remember when it took an entire village to raise a child? Remember when we knew the police officers’ names and called out to them with a smile? Remember when you and your neighbors exchanged pleasantries in the yard while cutting the grass, raking the leaves or trimming the hedges? Remember the great deal of pride that everyone took in saying that they were from Detroit?

The question is often asked, “What happened to those days?” What does it take to re-create a vibrant city that provides learning opportunities for our children, safe neighborhoods, and communities that are clean and filled with pride?

Detroit, I want those days back as badly as you. I am ready to do what it takes to get us there. Are you?
